Mr. Edward Thorburn Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

Mr. Thorburn was a member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church and the Higher Ground Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Thorburn graduated from Gumpton Jones Mortuary College and worked as a funeral director and embalmer for Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home for 10 years. He was the retired owner and operator of Thorburn Jewelers. He was a Shriner and a 33 Degree Mason. Mr. Thorburn had a wide array of interests including piloting, spending time in nature, admiring birds, loving his two dogs; Smokey and Sparky, and was a skilled wood worker who built houses and birdhouses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Randolph Thorburn, Sr. and Edna Allene Pugh Thorburn, a son, Edward Randolph “Randy” Thorburn, III and a wife, Virginia “Ginny” Thorburn.

Mr. Thorburn is survived by his wife, Susan Woods Thorburn, daughter, Ashley Thorburn Alverson and husband, Larry of Reidsville, step-daughter, Tina Meeks and husband, Chris of Climax, sister, Rebecca Thorburn Garcia and husband, Carlos of Summerfield, grandchildren; Kayla and Cameron Alverson and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm St.
