

Eleanor Betty Dotson Maple, 91, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Born on January 17, 1934, in Pennsboro, West Virginia, Eleanor was the daughter of Asa Arthur Dotson and Edith Nutter Dotson.
She pursued her education at West Virginia University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Her academic journey reflected her lifelong dedication to nurturing others and creating a warm and welcoming home. Eleanor was a devoted member of Friendly Avenue Church of Christ in Greensboro for 54 years. Her steadfast faith was a guiding light throughout her life and an inspiration to those around her. She was known for her loving spirit, graceful demeanor, and unwavering strength as a Christian woman.
Eleanor shared 58 years of marriage with her husband Stanton Donald Maple, who preceded her in death. Together they raised a family that brought great joy to her life. She is lovingly remembered by her sons: Steven Paul Maple and his wife Cynthia Stanley Maple of Oak Ridge, NC; James Stanton Maple of Greenville, NC; and Richard Patrick Maple of Cornelius, NC. She was also the proud grandmother of Lesley Schenk and her husband Greg; Ryan Maple and his wife Bailey; Lane Dupree; Wesley Maple; Addison Maple; and Landen Maple. Her legacy continues through her great-granddaughter Lauren Schenk.
In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, by her son Donald Lawrence Maple and her sister Carolyn Taylor. Carolyn is remembered by her husband Stephen Taylor and her son and daughter, Eleanor’s nephew and niece, Stephen Taylor Jr. and Michelle Morris.
Eleanor found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cross-stitching for family, cooking, enjoyed reading, and spending quiet moments with her beloved cats. These hobbies brought comfort to her days and reflected the gentle rhythm with which she approached life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Friendly Avenue Church of Christ, located at 5101 West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will follow immediately after at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro. Eleanor’s memory will live on through the lives she touched with kindness and grace.
