

Elizabeth “Beth” Mayo died on May 16, 2010, at her home in Greensboro NC.
The service will take place on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John L. Odom officiating. A family graveside service will be Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Richmond, Virginia, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m.
Beth was born in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of Bessie Laura Holt Sager and Albert Clair Sager. She attended Montreat College in North Carolina, and lived in Greensboro with her husband, Paul Mayo, Jr., her life partner and love of her life, for 41 years and then until her passing.
Beth was a member of Starmount Presbyterian Church, and long-standing member of the
O’ Henry Woman’s Club, Greensboro Lecture League, The Historical Museum and Presbyterian Women Circle 3. She assisted in organizing Westwood Morning Garden Club, Terpsichore Cotillion and Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club.
Beth and her husband, Paul, loved to dance, fish, read and travel. Together they traveled half way around the world to Europe, Japan, Thailand, upon his retirement.
Beth was a woman of much generosity and kindness to those less fortunate, and she was loving and kind to her family. She was her husband’s primary caregiver for years during his illnesses and until his death in August 2003.
Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 41 years, Paul Mayo, Jr., and her parents, Bessie Laura Holt Sager and Albert Clair Sager.
She is survived by her sisters, Patricia S. Howell, of Suffolk, VA, Alice C. Tripp (Robert), of Virginia Beach, VA, sister-in-law, Betty S. Hudson, of Mooresville, NC, daughter-in-law and loving caregiver, Diane Clark, of Haymarket, VA, step-son, Paul A. Mayo, of St. Augustine FL, and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel, on Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
