Frank was a Veteran of World War II and proudly served in the US Navy on the Navy ship, 'The USS Medusa'. He had a long career at Sears Roebuck Co. in Chicago, IL and retired in 1987. After the death of his loving wife of 55 years, he moved to Greensboro, NC in 2004.
Family was Frank’s top priority in life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather before anything else. A friend to many, he never met a stranger and people were drawn to his great sense of humor, warm smiling face and twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed many facets of life but took a special interest in oil painting and woodworking. He enjoyed music, was a regular at his neighborhood chair yoga class and was known for throwing a good party.
Frank is now with us in spirit and he will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever. His loved ones take great honor in calling him beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Little and son-in-law Dean Little of Greensboro, NC, his son Frank Murphy and daughter-in-law Vera DiGeorgio of Chicago, IL; granddaughter Nicole (Sullivan) LaRose and husband Jonathan LaRose of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandsons Ford Dean Little IV of Greensboro, NC, Bryan Murphy and wife, Julia of Chicago, IL and Frank Murphy and wife Shannon of Tempe, AZ; and great grand-children Nicholas Joseph LaRose and Vivienne Kathryn LaRose of Mount Pleasant, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Margaret (Doyle) Murphy, his wife Mary P. Murphy, his brother Anthony Murphy and his grandson Matthew F. Sullivan.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Frank’s physician, Dr. Edwin Jay Green, for his wonderful and compassionate medical care. His family will forever be grateful to him.
In lieu of flowers, Frank’s family requests a donation be made to "Hands for Hearts", a non-profit organization started in honor of Frank’s grandson, Matthew F. Sullivan, who passed away in January of this year. Its mission is to raise awareness and funds to support research for congenital heart defects.
