

Frank was born September 23, 1939, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to the late Franklin George King and Fern Ora Eck King. He lived in Mahanoy City , PA where he attended and graduated from Mahanoy City High School (MCHS) in 1957. It was at MCHS that he met the former Phyllis M. Tulin, his devoted wife of 56 years.
Frank was a highly educated man. He began his secondary education at Penn State University. He attended Penn State from 1957-1961. In 1961, he graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. November 27, 1959, while attending Penn State, was the day he married Phyllis M. Tulin. Frank remained a loyal Nittany Lion fan his entire life. Frank then continued his education by attending Kansas State University. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1962 with a Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering. After living in Kansas for a year, he and Phyllis were homesick, so to be closer to home and family, they moved back to the east coast. They moved to New Jersey where Frank worked at US Rubber and attended Stevens Institute of Technology. In 1966, he earned his Doctor of Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. It was at this point in his life that Frank made the decision to become an educator. Frank moved to Bethlehem, PA where he became a professor of Chemical Engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. Frank continued to remain an educator and moved to Laurel, MD beginning a job at Howard University in the District of Columbia. While at Howard University, Frank earned his Master of Education in May
1976. In addition to his position at Howard University Frank was also a consultant at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. At the National Institutes of Health he worked in biomedical research doing research with cancer drug therapies. He eventually left Maryland in 1985 to move to North Carolina. In North Carolina, he became the founding Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department at the NC A & T State University. Frank was the founding Chairman who led to the creation of the BS and MS chemical engineering programs at NC A& T. Frank was also determined to give credibility to the engineering program by ensuring that the chemical engineering program at NC A&T was accredited by ABET. Frank also installed the Beta Gamma chapter of the Engineering Honor Society, Omega Chi Epsilon at NC A & T. He remained the treasurer of Omega Chi Epsilon until he retired. He was himself a member of Omega Chi Epsilon. He was also certified a professional engineer in the state of North Carolina by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors. Frank retired from NC A & T in 2016.
Frank was a devoted grandfather. He truly enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending their sports events and weekend family dinners. He loved having his entire family together. He enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas. Frank also loved animals.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Fern King.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Phyllis M. King; his sister Ferne King Horwhat; his children Jeffrey King , Samantha King Hooker and husband, Joseph, and Timothy King and wife, Christy; his grandchildren, Paige King, Tyler Hooker, Blake King, Garrett Hooker, Bryce Hooker, Aidan Hooker, Hayden King, and Hudson King. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members.
