

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Lee Campbell of Toccoa, Ga. and father, Young David Rider of High Point, NC, grandparents Cora Bell and George (Pap) Carter of Stephens County, Ga. Sisters, Patty Rider Mize, Linda Rider, Linda Campbell and her twin, Shirley Campbell; brother, Richard Campbell. Second wife Sharon Rider.
Surviving is his love of the last 19 years is Patricia Gann Harris; her son Jason Harris; her daughter, Angela Marr and friend Donnie Reynolds; George’s daughter, Cynthia Rider Campbell (husband John Dee Campbell, Jr.), grandchildren and great grandchildren, Heather Ledford and her daughter Mackenzie Tucker, Roger Wayne Ledford and his son Roger Wayne Ledford, Jr., step daughter, Tammy Davidson (husband Charlie). Sisters, Mary Owensby and Wanda Campbell; several nieces and nephews and Patricia’s extended family.
George was born March 19, 1942 in Stephens County, Ga. where he enjoyed farm life hunting, fishing. He attended Stephens County High School where he was a quarterback on their football team which were state champions when he played. He moved to High Point, NC in 1961 with his first wife Diane where he worked for Mueller Foundry, then moved to Greensboro NC where he worked for Wysong and Miles until Retirement. George enjoyed working part-time at the Greensboro Coliseum, riding his motorcycle, having benefits for various organizations, charities and enjoying life to the fullest. He owned several bars, nightclubs and a restaurant in the area. His pride and joy was Riders in the Country which he opened in 1988 with his wife Sharon. George was a Shriner, Mason and member of Guilford Lodge 656 A.F. & A.M. He belonged to numerous organizations including Woodman of the World. George was part of team that started NASCAR Days in Randleman, twice a year held pet clinics at Riders in the Country, worked with the homeless and needy, Toys for Tots, The Christmas Toy Ride, Silversirus for Kids and numerous benefits for cancer awareness. Many people from all over benefited from George’s kindness and generosity over the years. His love for his friends and his community will always be remembered.
His family would like to thank friends and family for their support over the years and in this difficult time.
Public viewing for Mr. Rider will be on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Riders in the Country 5701 Randleman Rd., Randleman, NC 27317. The family will receive friends there from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro conducted by his sister, Mary Owensby. Masonic Rites will also be given.
