Jerry was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, on November 27, 1935, to Julian and Marie Saxon. He attended Sylacauga High School, where he enjoyed many activities, including the band. Jerry enlisted in the Navy after he graduated from high school. He served on the USS Kearsarge and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was able to see the world on a ship. After his return, he served in the Army reserves. He was proud to have served his country.
He was the beloved husband of Nell Ray Saxon, whom he married in 1958. He lost his wife of 67 years just six days before his passing. He and Nell were meant to be together forever. After his military service, Jerry embarked on his sales career as a district manager for JM Tull Metals, traveling and serving the southeast. He settled in Jamestown, NC, in 1978 and established a successful family business, Saxon and Associates. He founded the company by building on his reputation for honesty and hard work.
Jerry is survived by his three sons: Mike Saxon and partner Amy Dillon, Rusty Saxon and wife Carla, and Jason Saxon and wife Susan. He was a beloved grandfather to his four grandchildren: Madelene Saxon, Gabe Saxon, Megan Saxon, and Tyler Saxon.
Jerry was a dedicated volunteer and coach, always involved in his sons’ athletics, and enjoyed years of golf with his sons via a regular tee time of Saxon, Saxon, Saxon, & Saxon. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren at swim meets, baseball, and soccer games. He was their beloved “PawPaw”. He was a coach, mentor, and father to us all. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Jan Cooksey of California, and brother, Joseph Saxon of Alabama, and many nephews and nieces. He was proud of his Alabama roots and enjoyed visiting and spending time as often as he could.
His memory will live forever; may he rest in peace with his beloved wife, Nell. Go rest high on that mountain, your work is done.
The family would like to send its deepest appreciation to all the caregivers with Amada Home Care, Brookdale Assisted Living, and Hospice of the Piedmont. Many thanks for all the prayers from caregivers and friends
