A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with her family at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro on December 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery.
She was raised in Deal NJ and moved to Allenhurst NJ with her beloved late husband Joseph E. McDonough (Joe) upon their marriage in 1946.
Daughter of Josephine Amend Kelly and William F. Kelly, Gerry graduated from Holy Spirit School, Asbury Park, NJ, Star of the Sea Academy, Long Branch N.J., and Chestnut Hill College, Chestnut Hill, Pa.
For many years Gerry was a social worker for the New Jersey State Board of Children’s Guardians, an officer in the Fitkin Morgan Auxiliary, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chestnut Hill College Alumni Association, active at her children’s schools, and helped found the mother’s club of Christian Brother’s Academy.
Since December 2009, Gerry and her late husband Joe have resided in Greensboro, near their daughter Anne Beavan, Anne’s husband Rick, granddaughter Theresa Beavan O’Leary and, for the last year, great-grandson Tucker.
Gerry was privileged to have been the beneficiary of loving assistance: by Joe’s caregiver Becky Berchie of Irvington, first in Allenhurst and then in Greensboro; the companionship and car rides in Allenhurst from Jack Rae of Neptune (after Joe stopped driving at age 89); and from the wonderful employees at Abbottswood in Greensboro during the last three years.
Gerry will be deeply missed by her daughter Anne and husband Rick; sons Joseph, Peter and Mark, and their wives Holly, Chris and Mary Beth; ten granddaughters and one great-grandson; and the many people whose lives she touched. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Joe who was constantly by her side for 66 years, brother William F. Kelly and parents, William and Josephine Kelly. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to help others. Faith, family and friends were the essence of her life.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro.
Condolences may be sent to the attention of her daughter Anne Beavan 1198 Hounslow Dr, Greensboro NC 27410 or left online via www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Christian Brothers Academy, 850 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738.
