Glynn H. Downs

Glynn H. Downs went to heaven to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15.

Born on October 21, 1932, to Nicholas O. and Ella Downs Sr. in Cox Creek, KY, Glynn was the youngest of nine children. Glynn served two years in the US Army in his youth, graduated from the University of Louisville, taught Sunday School at Lawndale Baptist Church, and served in several capacities in the church through the years. He did volunteer work in the Greensboro Community in the United Way and Greater Guilford County Republican Forum. He was an accountant with Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Co., retiring as a Vice President of Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. He also enjoyed time on “the links”. He treasured his Lord, his family, his friends and his church.

Glynn is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly J. Downs; children, Robin D. Cotton and husband Bruce, Glen A. Downs, Steven L. Downs and wife Kathy J.; grandchildren, Nichole Prickett, Alisha Watkins, Steven Downs, Hope Downs, Faith Downs; spiritual grandchildren, Joseph Downs, Joshua Downs; brother, Louis Downs; sister, Louise Shelton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Giaritelli and Rev. Marion Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
