Helen (Capps) Newman

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Helen will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park following the funeral services. The family will receive friends and loved ones two hours prior to the funeral service from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

Helen was born July 26, 1931 in Greensboro, to the late John M. and Margaret “Peggy” Capps and grew up in the Coopertown neighborhood. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1949. Helen worked in the insurance and financial division for Shenandoah Life, IDS, American Express and Ameriprise, retiring as a Certified Financial Planner. She married the love of her life, Kenneth E. Newman on August 24, 1951. She loved her family first, then gardening, fishing, flea markets, Casinos, collecting antiques and traveling to practically anywhere. Always looking forward to the “next adventure”, she was always making sure there was a Disney World vacation trip planned every couple of years with her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; brother, John M. Capps, Jr.; nephews, John “Dee” Capps and Kelly Mark Kellam.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Peggy Millikan (Pete); nephews, James Kellam, Todd Kellam (Crystal), Richard Hall (Marie), David Hall (Susanne Gaddis) and Danny Hall (Rashel); nieces, Beth Smith (Greg) and Tammy Potaki (Dave); several great-nieces and great-nephews; and other extended family and friends.
