Howard Lane Burney, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Fisher Park H&R after a brief illness. He was born on February 11, 1932 in Lumberton, NC. He served his country in the US Army. Following his service, he went to work for the DeSoto Paint Company and retired after 40 years of service. Howard always enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved to garden and always had flowers growing. He also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he served as President of his Sunday School Class.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1995. Surviving is his daughter, Melissa Harrelson of McLeansville, NC; granddaughter, Jennifer Butner (Colt) of Whitsett, NC; grandchildren, “C.J.”, Cooper and Maggie Butner.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with burial with full military honors to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the church.
