

Iris C. Ward, 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Adam’s Farm Living and Rehab Center. Iris was born on March 6, 1924 in Durham, NC, the daughter of Herbert and Zola Jackson Chilton. She worked with Jefferson Pilot and retired after 35 years of service. She was a member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Iris was one of the original WW II “Rosie, the Riveter” working for the Glen L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire Department.
Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be deeply missed. Iris was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen, Marvin and Cecil Chilton. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 73 years, Henry “Ray” Ward of the home; daughter, Myra Brown and husband Robert of Thomasville, NC., son, Garry Ray Ward and wife Jane Roland of Greensboro, NC , grandson, Peter R. McGuire of Elkin, NC
The family wants to thank the staff of Adams Farm Living and Rehab Center for the kindness and care given to Iris during her stay.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Hinshaw United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
