Buck was a fellow collector and a fine man. He will be missed by all of us that love collecting Luger pistols.  I attended boarding school with Buck back in the early 1960's. Four years ahead of me, he always took time to show me the ropes. I'll miss him!

My family and I have had the pleasure of knowing Uncle Buck for almost 20 years. He was not only a client but a dear friend. His loving, caring, and humorous personality will be missed greatly by everyone who had the privilege to know him.


Thank you Pat for writing. I wish I could have there for the service. God bless you and your family. I know this is a rough time to lose a love one.

The last time I saw Buck Squires was at the 20th year reunion of the Page High School class of 1964 in Greensboro in 1984. That class considered Buck to be an honorary member because of his friendships with so many class members and because of the good times we had shared with Buck. I live on the west coast and Buck lived in NC, so we lost contact after 1984.

I was lucky enough to reunite with him, online, over the past 5 years.  Buck liked to share jokes and political items with me via email, but we really enjoyed the photographs of the children in his family that he would send.  He was very involved with his extended family, and despite the years and the distance between us, Buck and I were friends for life.    

I have many fond memories of Buck, but the one that remains foremost in my mind is the love that Buck shared with his mother.  There was a lot of kissing and hugging and joking between Buck and "Fanny" that was so endearing and charming that I smile as I think of it now, over 50 years later.  This was a family that had no problem demonstrating their love and closeness for each other.  

Buck was a man with a brilliant mind and a quick sense of humor, but I remember him most for his unashamed and open love for Fanny Squires.

"Uncle Buck", as he was affectionately called, was the best Uncle anyone could ask for. With a quick wit, fine taste and infectious positive energy, he offered unwavering support to his own nieces and nephew and to the children of his many friends. As a keeper of the Squires family history, he told many tales, peppering them with wisdom and his unique brand of humor. But the thing I will most cherish about Uncle Buck is that in times of darkness or doubt, he always found a way to say the right thing- shooting from the hip (pun intended) with insight and kindness. Although I regret that he never met his youngest grand-nephew, my son Jackson, I know he is looking out for him, the way he looked out for me and Carter and the rest of his family and friends.

Buck was a friend and client for many years. I use to decorate his Christmas tree. We did his condo when he moved in several years ago. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Buck was my friend when he worked for the County and we continued friendship in his retirement.  He taught me how to shoot at the gun club but indicated I was not at all his best student.  He said I think and talk too much to be a good shot but he trained me to overcome.  He was the chairman of the County Accident and Safety Review Board and ironically I hold that position today.  

My wife and I also have the same chronic health condition as Buck and we compared notes about how we managed.  He was a good friend with a big heart and is missed.  He also spoke to me about co workers with the County he appreciated including Debbie and Amy who have posted.  Peter and Elsa Safir

So sorry about Buck.  I worked with him in the Mucklenburg County Budget Office and he was as good a boss as he was a friend.

My deepest sympathy.  Buck was a wonderful supervisor and friend.
