James Edward Hamby, 84, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Thursday November 6, 2025. He was born April 19, 1941, in the Guilford College community of Greensboro, the son of Minter Edward and Esther Vada Cardwell Hamby.
A veteran, James served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
James was married Linda Marie Floyd who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters, Georgia Nixon, Hazie Wooten, Brady Cotner and Louise Hardin.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Ann Burroughs, Lisa Miller and husband Steve and James Edward Hamby, II and wife Tanya all of Greensboro: grandchildren, Terri Green, Daniel Green and wife Adriane, John Hamby, Heather Matthews, Timothy Matthews, Jr. and great grandchildren, Lily Green, Avery Green, Kayden Lopez, Tristan Lopez, Koral Herndon-Ball and Amber Matthews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday November 10, 2025, at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Reverend Vic Redding. Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.
