James Delbert Phillips Jr., 77, of High Point, N.C., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025.
Born on July 8, 1948, in Burlington, NC, Jim was the son of the late James Delbert Phillips and Ruth Wyrick Phillips. Jim graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with degree in computer science. After college, Jim enlisted in Army and served his country as a computer systems operator in the 441st Military Intelligence Detachment in Okinawa. He received the National Defense Service Medal as well as an honorable discharge in March 1972.
Jim began his civilian career in information technology working Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies before retiring from General Dynamics.
Jim always enjoyed volunteering and serving his community. He was an active Greensboro Jaycee and tirelessly volunteered as an election worker with the Guilford County Board of Elections.
Jim’s greatest pride and joy were his three grandchildren, Chandler, Sam and Isabelle. He was a consistent loyal supporter at every sporting event, award ceremony, and family celebration. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed golfing and fishing at the Outer Banks with his friends and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Rebecca Phillips, his beloved Vizsla: Chambeau, his stepdaughter Ashley Simpson (Sam) of Greensboro, and his three cherished grandchildren, Chandler Simpson of San Francisco, Sam Simpson of Atlanta, and Isabelle Simpson of Greensboro.
