Janice Elaine Graham Hall was born in Moore County in Vass, NC on May 5, 1939 to the late William John, Sr. and Lillian Ruth Norman Graham. Janice was a resident of North Carolina most of her life, and made Greensboro her home after leaving the Sandhills of her birth. She attended Women's College, the predecessor of UNC-G. She lived for a while in Florida and Mississippi. Janice worked as an administrative assistant in the circulation and advertising departments of the Greensboro Daily News and Record for 33 years, from 1974 until she retired in 2007. She was a long-standing member of Calvary United Methodist Church and a founding member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on church boards, visited shut-ins, and taught a children's Sunday school class. She travelled all over the USA, including such far-flung places as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut, New York and Alaska. She was a good friend to many, sharing in their joys and sorrows, and supporting them however she could. Janice enjoyed growing flowers, and attending plays and concerts. Her cheerful voice would light up a room or greet business callers with a warmth they remarked on. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother and will be dearly missed. Her brother, William John Graham, Jr., her sister and brother-in-law, Lavonne and Richard Gwyn, and her brother-in-law, A. V. Autrey, Jr., preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Michael Hall and grandchildren Nate and Jessica of Los Alamos, New Mexico; her son Gregory Hall, wife Bolivia and grandchildren Moriah and Gabbatha of Houston, Texas; her sister, Irma Ruth Autrey; her sister-in-law, Martha Graham Thomas; nieces, nephews and spouses, Betsy Holzworth, Larry & Terry Autrey, Linda & Edwin Foushee, Joan Whitt, Susan & Pete Larkin, Kathy & Kirby Buckner, Hal & Barbara Gwyn; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and her longtime friend Shirley Hitchcock, along with too many other close friends to be mentioned here, that were graciously loyal to her support in her later years.
The family will receive friends to celebrate Janice's life with a visitation from 3-4 pm on Thursday, May 26, at the location of her current home congregation, Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church in Greensboro. A formal service will be held at the same location at 4 pm, immediately followed by a reception until 6:30 pm. The next day, Friday, May 27, a graveside service will be held at Johnson Grove Cemetery in Vass, NC (allow two hours to drive from Greensboro) at 10 am. Her niece will receive friends and family afterwards at 2922 Greenbriar Dr. in Sanford. Flowers may be directed to Muir's Chapel UMC in Greensboro.
