

Mrs. Jean Wilkinson Slaughter, 87, a resident of Bay Tree Lakes near White Lake and a former resident of Greensboro passed away on Saturday September 30, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Home in Wilmington. She was born January 10, 1930 in Guilford County, the daughter of the late Cecil and Thelma Simpson Wilkinson.
Jean was married to John Matthew “Matt” Slaughter, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1991.
She worked as an operator with Southern Bell in Greensboro where she met Matt. They later moved to White Lake and owned and operated Harold’s Camp Ground at White Lake for 36 years. After selling the campground she moved to Bay Tree Lakes where she resided until her death.
Jean is survived by one daughter, Jaime S. Walton and husband Robert of Bay Tree; two sons, John Matthew Slaughter, III of Surf City, Jay P. Slaughter of Leland; daughter-in-law, Ann Slaughter of Boiling Springs Lakes; eight grandchildren, Laura Slaughter, Eric Jordan, John M. Slaughter IV, Blake Jordan, Amanda Slaughter, Matt Slaughter, Daniel Slaughter, Michelle Slaughter; one step-grandson, Rob Walton; nine great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday October 4, 2017 at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro conducted by the Reverend Eugene Dean. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel 6000 West Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27407 from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
