Born in Toccoa, Georgia, he was the son of the late LeRoy Hunter and the late Nell Edge Hunter. He was of the Catholic faith and worked hard to become confirmed a year before his accident. His sponsor was his best friend, Patrick Engle. Jeff was formerly employed at LabCorp. Jeff attended Lees McRae College, East Carolina University and Elon University, focusing on Broadcasting and Journalism. Jeff had always wanted to be a writer and he always talked about writing based on his adventures from traveling all over the World and the many amazing things he experienced. Music was also a huge part of his life and he was way ahead of his time in his musical tastes.
He really lived and LOVED life and was always on the go. Whether it be a day trip to the beach, or a weekend trip to one of his favorite places such as Washington, D.C. with his daughter Ann. Jeff was a retired Naval Military Veteran and proudly served overseas in the Gulf War on the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy CV-67. He would send his daughter gifts from places such as Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and more. We were all so proud of him and all that he accomplished in life. He lived his life to the fullest.
He was the caregiver of his mother for her last 5 years, until she passed away in 2012. A tragic accident in 2013 left him quadriplegic for his remaining time.
Jeff had the biggest personality, full of heart and love always. He was a true and fierce friend to so many people. He loved sports, with some of his favorite teams being the New York Giants, New York Yankees, the Rams, the Atlanta Braves, the Hurricanes, the Nationals, UNC Tarheels, and Manchester United just to name a few. He owned official jerseys of all of his favorite teams.
His greatest love was his family. He adored his only child and daughter, Ann, his grandkids, his sister, Becky and her family. Survivors include one daughter, Angela Hunter Dunn and her husband, Matthew Dunn; three grandkids, Mikey, Natalie and Lyric; brother, Joel Hunter and his wife, Amy, of Raleigh, NC; sister, Becky Hunter Ward and her husband, Danny Ward, of Mebane, NC; niece, Savannah; and nephew, Tyler.
