Dr. Jeffrey Roy Medoff

Dr. Jeffrey Roy Medoff skied his last run on October 18, 2025. He died peacefully at home in the arms of his bride of 50 years, Debra Silber, surrounded by adoring children, grandchildren and siblings. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just seven weeks ago.

Jeff was born in New York City on August 20,1952 to Rita Katz Medoff and Dr. Alan Sherwood Medoff. Raised in Teaneck, NJ with sister De and brother Bruce, he was a charming blonde, a Yankees and NY Football Giants fan, an outstanding athlete, and a steadfast friend.

In January 1968, Jeff got to know a girl from his French class on a Teaneck High School ski weekend in Rochester, Vermont. He invited Debi to see A Man for All Seasons at the cinema, followed by ice cream at Bischoff’s. This first date for two 15-year-olds sparked an epic 57-year love story. Jeff and Debi were married on June 8,1975. Jeff was beloved by Debi’s parents, Gloria and Gene, and her siblings, Linda, Susan and Philip.

Aiming to ski frequently, Jeff attended Middlebury College in Vermont. Jeff graduated with lifelong friends and a dual degree in Biology and Art History. He attended New York Medical College, followed by residency, a gastroenterology fellowship, and several years on faculty at Duke. There he researched hepatitis and helped start Duke’s liver transplant program.

The first two of Jeff and Debi’s six children, Kara and Ari, were born in Durham. Later in Greensboro, Sar, Mica, Carmi, and Gena arrived to complete Medoff VI. Jeff was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, insisting that every fight end with rubbing noses. He was the best listener, breakfast chef, bike riding and driving coach, pillow fight instigator, fire builder, and moral compass.

Jeff joined LeBauer Healthcare in 1986 and eventually became a managing partner. Jeff then founded Medoff Medical and Vital re:Search, leading a practice with a wonderful staff for over two decades, including the last five years as part of Wake Forest. His practice was anachronistic in all the best ways, with each patient receiving individualized care and attention.

In the community, Jeff was president of Greensboro Jewish Federation. He coached more than 60 seasons of youth soccer teams and attended at least 90 performances of The Nutcracker ballet, never missing an important moment in his children’s lives.

Jeff retired in June 2023 after caring for over 10,000 patients and their families. He was eager to travel with Debi and spend time with his 11 grandchildren. Although cherished destinations included Switzerland and Steamboat, Colorado, his favorite place was home. He was an expert skier, average fisherman, and beginner banjo player. He loved bourbon, Swiss chocolate, homemade applesauce, washing dishes, coffee malted milkshakes, swimming laps, watching Duke basketball, and above all else, he loved his family. Jeff and Debi celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer in the French countryside with their entire mishpacha.

Jeff is survived by a vibrant Medoff Nation: his wife (Debi Silber), siblings (De Lachman and Bruce Medoff), children (Kara and Dov Barnett, Ari and Diana Medoff, Dr. Sar Medoff and Dr. Elizabeth Consky, Mica Medoff and Adam Stern, Carmi Medoff and Jesse Weinberg, and Gena Medoff) and 11 grandchildren, who adored their O’Pappy.

A funeral will be held on Monday, October 20 at 2pm at Beth David Synagogue. Family will sit shiva Monday through Thursday, with visitation at the Silber Medoff residence from 5-7p.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked friends to consider a donation to the Greensboro Jewish Federation, Beth David Synagogue, or Greensboro Day School’s Student & Teacher Impact Fund.
