Jewel Cromer Patterson passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2024 in Greensboro, NC. A native of Kinards, SC, Jewel followed an unusual path for her time by leaving the farm for college and pursuing job opportunities in other states. Her independent and individualistic streak endured, but eventually, Tom Patterson persuaded her to marry him, and he proved to be the sole love of her life.
After becoming a widow in 1980, Jewel returned to work to provide a home and an education for her children. The last part of her career was spent working in the Career Planning and Placement Department at UNCG. After retiring, she kept herself busy volunteering for Meals on Wheels, serving as the Coordinator for the Asbury Covenant Class at West Market Street United Methodist Church, organizing a life's accumulation of treasures, experimenting with new recipes, gracing countless plants with her green thumb, and relentlessly pursuing every errant stick that fell in her yard.
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Allen Patterson, Sr. Surviving family includes children Allen Patterson (Kelly) and Lisa Sumner; grandchildren Danielle Dickson (Greg), Morgan Patterson (Justin), Tess Sumner, Kate Sumner and Tom Sumner; one great-grandson, Elliot Shreve; 7 granddogs, and a parrot.
The family will receive visitors on April 11, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. A celebration of life will be held on April 12, 2024 at 10:00 am at West Market Street United Methodist Church, 302 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC, with an interment ceremony to follow at 2:30 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, 908 S. McKay Ave., Dunn NC.
In lieu of flowers, Jewel’s memory would be honored by donations to Meals on Wheels. https://www.senior-resources-guilford.org/
