Jack was born on March 28, 1939 in Kane, Pennsylvania. Jack graduated from Williamsport High School, served in the Air Force, worked in the textile industry in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Dermott, Arkansas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Montreal, Canada and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1983, along with his wife Marge, they began CANUSA Communications, a company in its infancy, marketed data transmitting equipment, and in fruition supplied personnel and equipment for cellular service both domestic and international.
Jack is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ann Moore Asel (Marge); sister, Molly Wilson Smith, Maui, Hawaii and her husband Steven Smith. Distance did not diminish the love Molly had for her only living sibling. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Raymond; two brothers, Donnie and Jimmy and a sister, Susan.
Surviving also are many sisters and brothers-in-law, along with many special nieces and nephews, especially, Georgie Moore, Lesley Starr, Chris Dunlap, David, Jon and Brian Asel and Bobby Burritt.
Jack loved music and played in the BLACK EAGLES Drum and Bugle Corp at age 17. His other passion, flying, he had a private pilot license and owned his own Aerostar Commander, while living in Puerto Rico. Even Greater love, his strong faith and devotion to God; love, dedication and affection to his wife, Marge, and a truly enormous love for life itself. He was a member of “Dawn Patrol" and was deeply saddened when his health issues no longer permitted attendance at daily Mass. Jack was a member of Our Lady of Mercy and Fatima Chapel as well as St. Leo’s the Great.
Jack leaves loving memories to be cherished by his friends at the “Y” where he had been a member for 35 years as well as the staff and volunteers at Reynolda Gardens. A special thank you to all neighbors and friends and everyone who provided “Pick-up” service during Jack’s last months and numerous falls, especially, Kelley, Jack, Shelley and Will. To all the friends who took time out of busy schedules to visit Jack at both home and HOSPICE and most of all TONYA who made it possible for Jack to leave this earth among family and friends, in the comfort of his own home.
But most of all, he will be forever cherished, missed and loved by his wife, Marge of 50 years……if love could have saved him, Jack would have lived FOREVER!!
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Monday July 8, 2019 at 11 am at St. Leo’s the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DUKE CANCER CENTER, TRELLIS SUPPORTIVE CARE, Mercy, Fatima or St. Leo’s Churches.
