AVIS DE DÉCÈS
John Hampton Covington
25 juillet 1967 – 31 janvier 2021
John Hampton Covington II (Johnny) was born July 25, 1967 in Greensboro, North Carolina and passed away January 31, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 53.
He grew up Greensboro where he was raised by his mother Barbara Covington until she married Larry Cox. When he was 15, he became a big brother to Justin Cox. He graduated from Grimsley High School, took some business courses at GTCC, but mostly excelled at the school of LIFE.
John loved swimming, scuba diving, surfing, anything that had to do with the ocean. He loved telling jokes, dad jokes, anything that would make a person smile. Johnny enjoyed talking to anyone at any time and would do anything for anyone if it would help make their day better.
He loved going to church. He really enjoyed serving his Lord and caring for the youth at his home church, Grace Family Church in Lutz, FL, where he met his wife, Joyce and her daughter Heather-Ann. After 4 years of dating John and Joyce got married and one year later he adopted Heather as his own daughter. You would never know he had not been there from the beginning the way he loved and cared for her. John and Joyce just celebrated 13 years of marriage this past October. John was a very loyal and faithful husband and father, kind and thoughtful son, dutiful brother and fun and dependable friend.
John is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Heather; mother, Barbara Cox; father, Larry Cox; brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Stephanie Cox; nephew, Caleb; and aunt, Lynn Berrier.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Friends will be received following the service at 5210 Highland Oak Court, Greensboro, NC 27410. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in John’s name to The National Kidney Foundation or The American Diabetes Foundation.
And lastly, every time you hear a bad dad joke you will think of John and laugh, remembering how he always botched telling it.
