John Anthony Devera

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2017, at Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church 2210 North Elm Street, with Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio officiating.

John was a local veteran with many years of service with the ACC basketball tournament, NCAA, Greensboro Grasshoppers, and had 25 years of service with the NSFOA. Mr. Devera is a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he was an air police squadron member. He has served at Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona and McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey and served time in active and inactive reserve. Mr. Devera was also served with the Arlington, VA Police Department for a few years in the 60's and retired from Burlington Industries (ITG) with 35+ years.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Hockett and his sister, Mary Pasola. He is survived by his wife, Mary Devera; children, Chris Devera and his wife, Oana Devera of Blowing Rock, NC, Jennifer Faith Devera Alba of Apex, NC, David Michael Wesley Devera of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Luca Devera, Cameron Alba, Christian Alba and Demetrius Devera. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, October 22, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street.
