

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 310 Tremont Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403, with Pastor Joshua Haugen officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday at the church.
John was born March 18, 1930, in Nashville, TN to the late John Carl and Beatrice Clark Tate. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1952, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He would hold many titles in the textile industry, ranging from Director of Engineering to most recently President of TateCraft Industries, Inc. He was a long time member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tate was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Dishner Tate. He is survived by his children, John Edward Tate, Jr. and wife, Ellen of Durham, Valerie Tate Smith and husband, Dwight of Chapel Hill, Julie Tate Duncan and husband, Jeffrey of Hickory; grandchildren, Jennifer Tate Kiser and husband Kevin, Stephanie Allyson Tate and finance’, Gary Pellock, Jessica Lynn Fay and husband, Ryan, John Edward Tate, III and wife, Candis En Tate, Laura Marie Tate, Amber Kristin Smith, Jeffrey Tate Duncan, Aaron Lloyd Smith; great grandchildren, Hailey Reis Tate, Braydon Tate Fay, Brennan Faye Kiser, Walker Kevin Fay; brother, James Jethro Tate, and sister, June T. Odom. Also surviving is Farrell Tate of Atlanta, GA.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Trish McMasters; owner of Heaven Sent Home Care, and her team of care givers for the wonderful help given to John.
