

Josephine” Mommy Jo” Aiken Lewis, 88, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Friends Home. Josephine was born on May 6, 1927 in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of Clyde M. and Blanche Burgess Aiken Sr. She was a graduate of Curry High School and remained active In the Alumni Club. She worked at UNC-G as the Central Supply Manager. She was a lifetime member of Centenary United Methodist Church and active in United Methodist Women and participated in many church activities and committees. She and her husband Vernon were members of the Rambling Square Dance and Camping Club. Josephine was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother and a friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
Josephine was preceded in death by her loving husband Vernon E. Lewis Sr. on April 28th, 1993; brother, C. M. Aiken Jr. and sister, Ellen Aiken Martin. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Betty Lewis Durham of Greensboro, NC, Vernon E. Lewis Jr. and wife Joan of Kernersville, NC, Robert Aiken Lewis and wife Paulette of Leland, NC; sister, Betty Aiken Pugh of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Thomas (Mike), Mandy Durham, Sarah Whicker (Adam), Katie Riddle (Nick); great grandchildren, Carter and Dalton Whicker, Lizzie Whicker and Cheyenne Thomas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at on Thursday, 1:00 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Friends Home for the love and care given to their mother there.
