A Service of Remembrance is scheduled to be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception in the Haywood Duke room.
Juanelle was born on September 24, 1925 in Ray City, Georgia and moved to Greensboro in 1944. She graduated as valedictorian from Ray City High School and later earned her degree from Georgia State College for Women. In 1946, she was honored to be named Ms. Greensboro.
She was married to the love of her life, Joseph Marion Brantley, Jr. for 29 years before his passing in 2010. Mrs. Brantley enjoyed her bridge group at Greensboro Country Club, and cherished vacations with family and friends at Ocean Isle, NC, affectionately referred to as ‘the beach.’ Her beautiful garden was adorned with Lady Banks’ roses, and she was an avid reader who appreciated the thoughtful book selections made by her friends at the Greensboro Benjamin Branch Library.
Juanelle was the daughter of Joseph Samuel Clements and Effie Mae Clements. She was preceded in death by her sister Camille Neville, brothers Hugh S. Clements and Donald J. Clements. In addition, Mrs. Brantley is survived by daughters Bette Baugh Maxwell and husband, Bruce, of Ansonia, CT, Dana Baugh Welles and husband, Thomas, of New Fairfield, CT and son Eugene Bibb Baugh III and wife, Gretchen, of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Mimi, Sherri, Cali, Brad, Andrea, Lauren, Trevor, Genna, and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brantley is also survived by her three stepsons, Joseph M. Brantley III and wife, Gwen, and F. Cooper Brantley, Sr. and Kathy L. Cross both of Greensboro and Thomas M. Brantley and wife, Isabel, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Rebecca, Leigh, Elizabeth, Cooper, Andrew, Caroline, Isabelle, Lauren, and Matt, and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express its deep appreciation for the exceptional care she received at Abbotswood at Irving Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church or the Greensboro Benjamin Branch Library.
