A memorial service celebrating Julia’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 until 3:00 pm.
Born September 21, 1955 in Morganton, NC to the late Roy Thomas Waters and Greta Clark Waters, Julia was of the Baptist faith. She grew up in Morganton, graduated from Salem High School and married the love of her life, Jeff Sims on August 17, 1974. Julia worked for Berkshire Hathaway Yost and Little Home Services as an Office Manager for 18 years and was awarded the Eddie Yost Good Neighbor Award earlier this year. Julia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. She loved spending time with family, grandbabies and friends. Her favorite places to be were the beach or on her back deck enjoying a glass of wine and listening to Diana Krall. Julia absolutely loved her job and who she would call, “her people”. She had such a gift and a special way of loving, guiding and nurturing those that she loved. Julia was so strong, always determined and just a woman of unwavering devout faith. Through all of her life trials and tribulations, she would ALWAYS praise and thank God for all of his beautiful and gracious blessings. She may be gone from our sight but, will be forever embedded in our hearts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Chip Waters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 48 years, Jeffrey “Jeff” Lee Sims; son, Travis Sims of Concord, NC; daughter, Brett Mikesell and her husband Kyle of Randleman, NC; grandchildren, Landon Sims, Reese Sims, Mason Mikesell and Maelyn Mikesell; sisters-in-law, Pam Gibson and Terri Waters; niece, Gina Barrier and her son, Graham Fleming; nephew, Joey Waters; aunt, Rita Brittain; uncle, Kenny Clark and his wife Frances; cousins, Gary Clark, Cami Lampkin, Sharon Jablonski, Sheila Kincaid and Shannon Mooring; along with a multitude of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Randolph County, 446 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27204 or to Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1500 Rosecran Ave., Suite, 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
