

Katherine Elizabeth McCroskey Hutton, 91, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Friends Homes West. Katherine is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert “Bob” Hutton, Sr. also of Friends Homes West.
Katherine was born on March 17, 1933 in Bristol, TN to Henry and Charmie McCroskey. After graduating from Bristol TN High School, she attended Virginia Intermont College and then married her sweetheart, Bob Hutton, on August 10, 1952. They had four children and the growing family moved to Roanoke, VA in 1960, and finally to Greensboro, NC in 1974. Katherine loved spending time with her family, cooking, singing, playing bridge and traveling on tours with friends. She especially loved to sew and was a gifted seamstress, who shared her talent joyfully with family and friends. In Roanoke, Katherine served as Librarian at Grandin Court Baptist Church. In Greensboro, Katherine was a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years and served the Lord by singing in the Choir, the Senior Choir, and playing handbells. She also served on the Missionary Home committee, was a member of WMU, and church Librarian. In 2013, Katherine retired after 27 years, from Lifeway Christian Store. She had many friends there; co-workers and customers alike.
In addition to her parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her brother, Henry McCroskey Jr, her sister Edith Moeschlin and her beloved son, Robert James “Jim” Hutton, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bob, daughters, Elizabeth Anne Hutton of Charlottesville, VA, Kathy Hutton (Conrad) of Elbert, CO, daughter-in-law Dana Hutton of Summerfield, NC, son David Hutton (Carrie) of New London, NC; four grandchildren, Erin Greene (Dustin), Henry Hutton (Quinnlan), Seth Hutton, Olivia Hutton and one great grandson, Jack Greene.
The family wishes to thank Rob Scifres of Trinity Rehab for the special friendship he formed with Katherine over the last few years.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Westminster Gardens Colonial Mausoleum in the lower level. The family will receive friends starting at 2 pm prior to the service.
