Katherine was born in Portsmouth, VA to Norman Thomas and Pattie Whitehead. She received a degree in History from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. On October 27, 1990, she married Richard Frederick Stanco, Jr. They raised two daughters, Alexandra and Danielle. She spent a 30-year career in the Home Furnishings industry.
Katherine was an avid reader and loved all things Harry Potter. She loved watching and supporting her teams the Carolina Panthers, Virginia Tech Hokies and Chelsea FC. She was known for having a kind and generous heart.
Katherine was preceded in death by her father, Norman Thomas and her mother, Pattie.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her two daughters, Alexandra and Danielle; her sister, Mary Kook; and several cousins and nephews.
A family visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro from 6 o’clock p.m. to 8 o’clock p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E Main Street Jamestown, NC at 2 o’clock p.m. Flowers will be received at Hanes- Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine’s name to Jamestown United Methodist Church Outreach Center, Hospice of the Piedmont, or to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital.
