Kathy Jean Umphrey

Kathy Booker Umphrey, age 71, passed away peacefully at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Kathy was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose gentle spirit and unwavering kindness touched everyone who knew her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her brother Coy David (“C.D.”) Booker, Jr., her sister Gloria Booker Robinson, her mother Magaline Wilson Harris, and father Coy David Booker, Sr. all of Greensboro.

She is survived by many who cherished her deeply:

• Niece Robin Sanders (Ricky)

• Nephew Pastor Richard Booker (Jennifer)

• Nephew Greg Tomlin (Melissa)

• Niece Renae Nealley (Patrick)

• Nephew Mark Booker (Denice)

• Niece Gloria Coble (Richard)

Kathy also leaves behind 13 great nieces and nephews and 8 great great nieces and nephews, each of whom brought her great joy.

Kathy had a special love for her dog, Sassy, who passed in 2017. Sassy remained close to her heart for the rest of her life. Kathy also treasured spending time shopping with her niece Robin and her best friend Michele—simple moments that brought her laughter and happiness. Her church family was especially meaningful to her, and she was a devoted and active member of the Greensboro Seventh-day Adventist Church.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 8th at 2:00 PM at Greensboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1320 Fleming Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410

Kathy will be remembered for her gentle heart, her generosity, and her deep love for family, friends, and faith. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those who loved her.
