

Mr. E. Kemp Reece, 89, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at The Village at Brookwood. For many years he was a resident of Greensboro but more recently he and his wife had resided at The Village at Brookwood in Burlington.
Graveside services will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greensboro at 10:30 a.m. Monday July 9, 2012 conducted by Rev. Dr. David Melton. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday July 9, 2012 at Front St. United Methodist Church, Burlington (corner of Front and Fisher Sts.) conducted by Rev. Marshall Old. The family will receive friends in the Heritage Center following the service.
A native of Jonesville, N.C. he was the son of the late John Edgar and Clyde Holcomb Reece. Mr. Reece graduated from Wake Forest University and attended Temple University in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Navy in Guam during World War II.
In his investment business career he was Vice President and former Branch manager of Interstate/Johnson Lane in Greensboro. He retired in 1999 as Vice President of J.C. Bradford Investment Firm.
He was a long time member of West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro, where he was formerly a member of Administrative Board, Trustee, Chairman of Finance Committee, President of Fellowship Class and Chief Usher. He was interested in sports and served on the Board of Directors, was past President and longtime Treasurer of the Greensboro Sports Council.
Mr. Reece was a member of the Gate City Kiwanis Club where he was a former member of the Board of Directors, Club President and Lt. Governor of the Carolinas District. He has a 52-year perfect attendance record.
He was active in the support of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra having served on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Symphony Endowment Committee.
He was former President of Greensboro Wake Forest University Deacon Club, Chairman of the Meredith College Board of Associates and Trustee of Greensboro College. He also was an Eagle Scout and formerly District Commissioner of General Greene Council Boy Scouts of America, Board member of the Salvation Army Boys Club, Guilford Wildlife Club, American Legion-Post Adjutant, a Mason and a Shriner.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Hayworth Reece, a son E. Kemp Reece, Jr., and a brother Mark Holcomb Reece in addition to his parents. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Janie Crumpton Evans Reece, his daughter Anne Reece Collins and husband, James of Clemmons, his daughter-in-law, Janice Drach Reece of Raleigh, granddaughters Logan R. Collins, Greer Collins, Emily Reece and Annie Frances Reece. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Evans Queally and husband Frank of Darien, Ct., stepsons William J. Evans and wife,
Carol, of Fredericksburg, Va. and David C. Evans and wife, Mary, of Burlington, five step-granddaughters and one step grandson.
