On August 28, 2021 this world lost a humble servant of God, loving father and husband, loyal patriot and best friend a person could have. Ken’s sense of humor and easy-going nature endeared him to all and his willingness to serve and help those in need defined him.
Born the son of Edward Lee Clifton and Dorothy Jean Clifton on November 10, 1954, Ken graduated from Wilkes Central High School and was a member of the 1973 conference championship football team. He attended NC State University and served in the US Army where he began his career in computer field and network engineering.
In May of 1985, Ken married Gaye Barbour Clifton and began a 36-year adventure filled with dear friends, devoted service to his church, Wolfpack sports, cruise vacations, conservative values and his richest blessing—raising his daughter Kristina.
Ken is survived by his wife Gaye, daughter Kristina of the home, twin sister Kathy Triplett (Steve) of Sherrills Ford, NC, sister Kim Penley (Rick) of Hickory, NC, brother-in-law Donald Barbour (Mary) of Garner, NC and nieces and nephews, Emily, Ben, Brad, Bradley, Micah, Craig, Kristen and Hardy. He was predeceased by his parents.
A service of celebration will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Mount Pisgah UMC with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial in Salisbury National Cemetery will be Thursday at 9:00 AM with full military honors. Please consider wearing something red to the service in honor of Ken’s devotion to our country and NC State.
