Leila “Muff”, “Leel” Haywood Ferris born in St. Johns, Antigua, transitioned on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Leila was known for living her life unapologetically! She enjoyed traveling, dancing, watching western movies, butterflies, balloons and FOOD! She was a real foodie. There wasn’t a dish Leila was not willing to try or any food safe enough if she really enjoyed it!
Leila was also a woman dedicated to serving her community. The parishes of St. Jerome, Holy Cross, St. Pius, St. Laurence and Our Lady of Refuge were the recipients of her time and talents. She served on Parish Councils, volunteered in the food pantry, co-facilitated youth programs and organized bus rides and excursions abroad. Many people traveled to exotic parts of the world as a result of Leila’s trip planning skills.
The biological mother of three children, Leila was also a mother to many “sons and daughters”. “Mom” as she was called, kept many tweens and teens in check! If you were misbehaving, one look from Leila corrected your actions.
Leila is now with her husband Leslie Ferris also known as “Dad” and “Pops”. They can now resume their dancing. Leila is survived by her three children Luther, Lauraine and Lennox; daughter-in-law, Sandra; seven grandchildren- Dominic, Alexavier, Anaya, Carmen, Darius, Gabrielle, Michael; three great-grandchildren Cameron, Ka’Mya and Jordan; her brother Hugh Haywood; nephews Jason and Hugh Jr.; godson Anthony Gorham and his wife Mimi; many loving cousins and countless friends!
Leila has requested that no one cries or “carries on”! Rather- Live, Laugh and Love one another!
