Leslie Haywood Caison Jr.

Born on July 14, 1946 in Wilmington North Carolina, Leslie was the son of the late Leslie Haywood Caison and Emma Jane Walker Caison. Raised in southeastern North Carolina, he graduated from Burgaw High School before attending Campbell College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

Leslie was proud to have worked for Burlington Industries (later International Textile Group) for thirty-seven years. He began his career at the Erwin Mills textile plant in Erwin and later joined the BI’s corporate offices in Greensboro where he spent much of his career in purchasing. He was respected for his steady leadership, professionalism, and ability to build lasting relationships throughout his years in the textile industry.

In December 1969, Leslie married Amelia Leimone beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than five decades. Together they built a life together centered on family, faith, and community.

Leslie was a faithful member of Glenwood United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in the United Methodist Men’s renowned Brunswick stew. He was frequently called on to lead meaningful prayers for any occasion.

Outside of his professional life, Leslie was a gifted craftsman. He possessed impressive carpentry skills and found deep satisfaction in working with his hands. Over the years, he built many pieces of furniture for his home and for those he loved. For his grandchildren, he constructed an elaborate train play structure. He also built numerous clocks, each carefully assembled and crafted with patience and precision. These creations stand as lasting reminders of both his skill and his love for family.

Known for his warmth and easy manner, Leslie never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to find a connection with nearly anyone he encountered. Whether through shared acquaintances, hometown ties, or common interests, he delighted in discovering the threads that link people together. His conversations were marked by kindness, curiosity, and genuine interest in others.

Leslie is survived by his beloved wife, Amelia Caison; daughter, Denise Herr and her husband, David Herr; son, Leslie Haywood “Les” Caison, III and his wife Eva Caison; grandchildren, Emma Herr and John David “Jack” Herr; brother, Robert E. Caison and his wife Karen Caison; and sister, Margaret McCormick and her husband Eddie McCormick.

Leslie will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his devotion to family, his integrity in work, and his gift for friendship. His life was marked not by loud accomplishments, but by consistent goodness, loyalty and the quiet strength of a man who cared deeply for the people around him.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the WhiteStone Retirement Community in the Tommy L Jones Chapel 700 South Holden Road Greensboro NC.
