

Lois Carter Hutchison, age 98, died early morning on November 11, 2022, at Abbotswood Verra Spring in Greensboro. She was born in Wilkes County to the late Bryan Carter and Tessie Carter. Married to the late Burr York Hutchison, she retired as bookkeeper and office manager of their auto parts stores in Elkin, Jonesville, Sparta, and later in Greensboro.
Lois was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Elkin, N.C., and later First Baptist Church in Greensboro, where she volunteered and served on various committees.
She enjoyed world travel with her husband. In addition, they were host parents to foreign college students in the Guilford College Interlink program. Reading, needlepoint, gardening, and baking were among her favorite pastimes.
Lois is preceded in death by sisters Alma Draughn , Doris Hutchison, Rose Simmons and Nancy Knighton; brothers ,Ward, Joseph, and Conrad Carter; brothers-in-law, Russell Draughn, Wilmer Hutchison, Clinton Smith, and Bobby Simmons. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Hutchison White (John) and Kay Hutchison Carroll both of Greensboro; two granddaughters, Sarah Ivester (Shane) of Rural Hall and Ashley Carroll of Greensboro; and one great grandson, Cooper Ivester of Rural Hall; two sisters, Agnes Smith, and Betty Luffman (Javan); one brother, Franklin (Kit); brother-in-law, Ray Knighton; sister-in-law Leora Sidden, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to all of her caretakers at Abbotswood Verra Spring and AuthoraCare Hospice, Greensboro.
A family graveside service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Elkin, N.C. at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Pastor John Newton.
