

The funeral will be held on Friday, December 16 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church where she was a member for 69 years. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 1:00 pm in the church parlor. A graveside service at Westminster Gardens will conclude the observance.
Lois was born on May 22, 1913 in Shiloh, NC to Walter Sivills Sawyer and Mary Frances Bray Sawyer. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and continued throughout her life to be active in the local alumni chapter as well as the state alumni association.
On August 18, 1942, Lois married Harold Bowden Pritchard, of Elizabeth City, NC. They spent all their married life in Greensboro, where both of them were very active in church and civic organizations. Lois was a public school teacher for 30 years, for the greater part of the time teaching sixth grade at Clara J. Peck Elementary School. At First Baptist Church she was a Sunday School teacher and leader in many facets of church life, was active in the WMU organization, and was a charter member of the FBC Library volunteers. Within the community, Lois was a member of the Junior Woman’s Club and was a charter member of the O’Henry’s Woman’s Club. She was actively involved as a volunteer in a number of organizations including the Red Cross, Civitan Club, and United Way. Lois was known for entertaining in her country kitchen. After retirement, she and Harold enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe, Hawaii, the Holy Land, and across the US.
Throughout the years she was intimately involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She gave generously of her time and resources to all those around her, loving and encouraging others and challenging them to be their best. Her life was guided by total confidence in the goodness and grace of God and the power of prayer.
Lois was preceded in death in 1990 by her husband Harold Bowden Pritchard. She is survived by a daughter and son: Betty and Marty Dickens of Nashville, TN, and Woody and Buzzy Pritchard of Greensboro. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: John and Sherri Dickens of Atlanta, Sarah and Stephen Roach of Greensboro, Jamey and Sara Dickens of Atlanta, Michael and Amanda Pritchard of Greensboro, and Anna Pritchard of Greensboro. Her four great-grandchildren include Evangelyn Roach and Sawyer Pritchard of Greensboro, Ally Grace Dickens of Atlanta, and Brighton Roach of Greensboro.
Lois was preceded in death by her brother James Bray Sawyer and is survived by younger brother Walter Raleigh Sawyer of Shiloh, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, it was Lois’s wish that any memorial contributions be made to the library at First Baptist Church Greensboro, 1000 Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403.
