A blessed woman of God, Lucyann G. Mitchell born 09 February 1933, closed her eyes on 15 February 2022 and was translated immediately into the presence of her Lord and Savior. Raised in Charleston, WV, Lucyann was the daughter of the late Rudolph Green, William Webster, and Mary Dorcas Green Webster. Her formative education was from Garnett High School where she graduated in 1951.
Lucyann chose to live her life faithfully to God and she boldly proclaimed the gospel of Jesus to be true and powerful so that others would be saved. She possessed a keen artistic talent that gave her the ability to recreate the wonders of God’s creation. Most notable was her cake decoration skills. Her creative hands and eyes were not limited to her culinary creations, she also made lamps enclosed with flower arrangements and refurbished antique furniture for her small business.
Lucyann married the late William H. Mitchell, Jr, on 28 August 1954. From this union came a daughter Lorin M. Florence and a son William H. Mitchell, III. His career at North Carolina A&T State University led them to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1958 where they resided for their 59 years of matrimony.
Mourning her loss are their two children: Lorin M. Florence and William H. Mitchell, III (Fonta); five grandchildren: Bethany J. Hepokoski (Jeremy), Micah J. Florence, Alysha D. Mitchell, William H. Mitchell IV, and Andre P. Footman; three great grandchildren: Ian Hepokoski, Skylar A. Harrell, and Adonis P. Footman; and nephew J. Reginald Coleman. Great nieces: Maria Cook and Keonna Brown; great nephews: Mitchell Coleman and E.J. Cook, as well as a host of family and friends.
