Mabel Nix Barnes

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. She will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

Born in Henderson County on March 2, 1935 to the late B.T. Nix and Lillian Collins Nix, Mabel was of the Christian faith. After graduating high school, she moved to Greensboro and took a job with Sears and Roebuck. It was in Greensboro that she met the love of her life, Donald Richard Barnes, who was an active Army Airborne Paratrooper, on a blind date and the rest was history until his passing in 2002. Mabel retired from the Guilford County Health Department. In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her four brothers and four of her sisters.

Those left to cherish he memory include her daughters, Ronnell Smith (Hal), Terri Jorgensen (Tom) and Dee Anne Edwards (Ryan); sisters, Margaret Jurkiewicz and Ellen Curtis (Richard); five grandchildren, Jason Munroe, Lauren Jorgensen, Corey Jorgensen, amber Edwards, and Erica Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Aria and Jaxon Munroe; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
