Mamie Kendrick Snider, 95, of Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at Well-Spring Retirement Community. Mamie was born on November 9, 1929, the youngest child of the late Ethleen Hensarling Kendrick and the late James Ramsey Kendrick of Nacogdoches, TX.
Mamie graduated from Kilgore College, where, at just 16 years old, she met the love of her life, John Herman Snider. She later attended Texas Woman’s University. Mamie and John married three years after meeting, in Denver, Colorado, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 71 years.
Mamie and John made Greensboro their home in 1976 and soon became beloved, active members of the community. Mamie was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, and she participated in various civic and social organizations. She was also a passionate golfer and a longtime member of Greensboro Country Club.
Mamie and John nurtured lifelong friendships, including a close-knit group of former classmates affectionately known as the "First Graders" and a long-standing circle of golfing friends. Together with their family, they enjoyed memorable trips to Banff, Yellowstone, the mountains of Colorado, and Palm Desert, California. They especially loved their time at Litchfield Beach, SC.
Above all, Mamie will be remembered for her genuine kindness, generous spirit, humble fortitude, and her adoration for her family. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Hunt (Russ) and son, John Snider (Carole). She took immense pride in her five grandchildren: Anne-Marie Brown (Dave), Jeffrey Hunt (Ashley), Graham Hunt (Kara), Kate Henry (Frank), and Kelley Anderson (Andy), and was delighted by her twelve great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her nephew, Gary Kendrick. In addition to her husband, John Snider, she was predeceased by her parents, her brother George R. Kendrick, and her nephew Greg Kendrick.
A celebration of Mamie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, in the Virginia Sutton Theatre at the Well-Spring Retirement Community. A reception will follow the service in the Special Occasions Room.
