Margaret Alala, 84, died February 13, 2020 at her home. A celebration of her life will be at 2 PM, February 29, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel with Chaplain Chris Morris officiating. The family will receive friends during a reception following the service.
Margaret was born in Aleppo, Syria to the late Joseph Basil and Waheda Tawill Alala. When she was a very young child, her family immigrated to the United States and eventually Greensboro, which she considered home however, her thoughts of the “old country” never left her. She loved to share her heritage and especially loved to make Arabic foods. She will be remembered for her love of family and her wide circle of friends. Her caring and generous spirit was evident in her daily life and she had a great interest of investing in her community. Margaret’s faith was solid and she worshipped for many years at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed sharing stories from the “good old days” and took time out to watch her soap operas. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and attended Western Carolina and Florida State Universities. Margaret had a tender spot for children and for approximately 40 years was the administrator for the CEO of Family and Children Services.
She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Madeline A. (Tommy) Lineberry of McLeansville, George (Marsha) Alala of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Eddie (Jean) Alala of Myrtle Beach, SC, and John Alala of Greensboro; fifteen nieces and nephews; and twenty-two grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her brother Joseph B. Alala and sister, Mary Alala Dixon preceded her in death.
