I have so many fond memories of Margaret and Tom.  They were both instrumental in having us become members of Christ Church, of which we are forever grateful.  Some of my fond memories of Margaret are on the ornery side.  Like planting a plastic Joseph in Tim's front yard so his home would sell.  We even put together a little service complete with music.  Or the time she was in rehab after some minor surgery and I snuck her out the side door for a fun outing.  A lot of memories have to do with gardens and plants.  She gave me several so now when I walk around in my back yard I see Margaret everywhere.  I have recently been captivated by the musical Wicked.  There is a song in the play that fits Margaret to a "T" and that song is called "For Good".  The line in the song that speaks to me about Margaret is "Because I knew you I have been changed for good".  Thank you Margaret!!!  You will also be a hand print on my heart.

As Margaret was preparing to move from her house on Redington, she spent an hour with me in her garden. As we walked, she named each plant and a little history of the plant's life with her. I treasure this memory.

What warm and lively memories my family has of visiting Padge and Tom around their dinner table in Maryland.  She was so generous with her love for Abby and Jenny--making candy cane Christmas cookies with them not just for them.  That was her way and a wonderful example for all of us.  She was unfailingly "surprised " along with the girls at the lively mice that her husband, Tom, magically made out of paper napkins.  What a delight she was for our family some 40+ years ago.  Thanks for putting the notice in the Washington Post so that we could join you in remembering Padge.

   Margaret was much loved by my dad, Bill Padgett, and therefore we all loved her as well.  When daddy told stories and hilarious tales, Margaret was always included.  Margaret kept touch with the family through cards, gifts, pictures and other mementos.  One memento I remember was a pair of birds she made with ochra pods - they were darling.
   I will always remember and cherish the time we had at our Folly Beach Reunion.  I corresponded with her via e-mail for several years.  She had that "Padgett way" of speaking and telling stories that reminded me so much of my daddy and those conversations helped me keep Daddy's memory and love alive.

Ms. Margaret was without a doubt one of the sweetest, kindest, warmest ladies that I have ever met.  I had the pleasure of attending St. Timothy's with her.  Martha, the girls and I also had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Margaret at River Landing on a few occasions.  We spent one memorable evening visiting and listening to stories about growing up in South Carolina all the way up to her time in Greensboro.  To say that was a special evening would be such an understatement.  One of our last visits with Ms. Margaret, Olivia and I sat on the ground at her feet and once again had the pleasure of listening to her tell us stories of years past.  I will ALWAYS cherish the time I was able to be in the presence of Ms. Margaret.  May she rest in peace!

Ms. Margaret was a true shining light to St. Timothy's and especially to my family.  Our two girls and I had the joy of going to her River Landing apartment. to bake cookies and have lunch with her.  She would introduce us to anyone within earshot that we were here church family.  We loved her stories of her husband, children and grandchildren.  She took great pride in showing us her husband's word puzzles to solve and explaining in great detail the nativity scenes she collected or were given to her as gifts from all over the world.  Each one was a prize.  Just like Ms. Margaret.  The Parrish family will miss her dearly and we are blessed beyond words at having known her and called her a friend.

I first met Margaret at Christ Church working on different committees and wanted to be just like her when I "grew up"...her charm, quick wit, and loving spirit animated from her then, and later at St. Timothy's! She was one of those "spirit-filled" individuals who graced my world. I'm grateful for those experiences! My sympathy to your family.

Was fortunate to attend Sunday School at St. Timothy's while Margaret was there.  Always loved her humor and candor.  She could liven our group discussions with personal lively stories, wisdom and experiences. Margaret was a blessing!

Carl and I loved Margaret so much. We visited her shade garden many times and are starting one of our own which we will dedicate to her. We have many memories- teaching our daughter how to knit, birdwatching, trips to Lake Junaluska.  The funniest story is when Tim Berlew was trying to sell his town home.  We took Margaret with us to bury a St. Joseph statue(upside down, of course!).  We had an entire ceremony and Margaret read the prayer.  We laughed so much, which we did many times with her- a dear, special friend.

Margaret: beautiful, fun, inquiring,interested in people, plants, world. She invited me to visit several times. We talked,laughed, bonded. She bonded with all. Last visit she smiled - that all knowing smile.  She loved St Timothy UMC. She is missed, but present in spirit in the hearts of all.

Margaret joined our Sunday School class and brought her discerning wisdom and humor along.  She was quite feisty when she did not like what was being said. I appreciated and enjoyed her friendship and will miss her greatly.

Margaret's radiant smile will always be remembered. After the Sunday Service, she was always surrounded by the children.  They loved her! She touched my life and will stay in my heart forever.

Margaret's smiling face was such a welcoming presence when I first started attending St. Timothy.  I was impressed by her inquiring and open mind during our Sunday school discussions. She will be greatly missed.

Margaret will always be remember at St. Timothy's for her service, mentoring and her love for the church and its members..

Vernice Parker

Margaret was my neighbor and garden club friend in Greensboro.  I shared many happy times with her (and Tom).  She advised our son on his Eagle Scout butterfly garden project and nominated him for the Youth Garden Club Award which he received.  She accompanied me on several trips to the DC area to visit our children.  It was such fun to have her along. Margaret is remembered for arranging fun activities, like a kazoo band at a garden club party.  I was sad to lose contact with Margaret when she moved to River Landing. We want to welcome everyone who might have known our mom, Margaret Padgett Golden.  We hope you will take a moment to say hello and also to tell a story if you would like.  My mother loved stories and it is the stories that stick with us, that bring us closer and help us to let go.  So please tell one if you have it!

I will start off with a very short story about my mom that most of you probably have never heard.  When I was a little guy i had more than my share of naughtiness.  What would my mother do when I would pull a fast one?  Depends on the crime but many times she would simply quote Shakespeare!  I remember many of those quotes to this day.  They made quite an impression, probably more than a traditional response.
