Marie is preceded in death by parents Tommie Campbell and Lela Jones and husband Andrew Bahl.
She is survived by siblings Emily Campbell (Rhonda), Annette Campbell (Roy) and Curtis Campbell (Lori); children Jean Bragassa (Dylan), Leigh Bragassa (Mark), Debbie Gessner (Carl), Judy Nikolich (Greg) and Andrew Bahl, Jr.; and grandchildren Maggie, Thomas, Hana, Luka, Gregory and Talia.
Marie graduated Cary High School (1958), Women’s College UNC (Greensboro 1962) and Meredith College (Raleigh 1964).
She enjoyed 26 years as an elementary educator in both Seattle, WA, and Raleigh, NC. Although her students were young, many reached out to her as adults to share the positive impact she had on their lives.
Marie delighted in music, playing piano, and singing. She liked dance and all forms of art. She wrote as a hobby and loved exploring. Her homes were full of color, blooms inside and out, and mementos that spoke to her explorations and unique sense of style.
Marie and Andy spent many happy retirement years enjoying the beaches near their Topsail Island home, volunteering at the local sea turtle rescue, and traveling the world, even camping across New Zealand.
After experiencing a stroke in 2001, Marie exemplified graceful resilience, teaching herself creative ways to adapt, communicate, and continue to make art.
