Mark found joy in the outdoors, whether he was working in his yard, spending a day fishing at the beach or a local pond, hunting, gardening or watching NASCAR. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and the many friends whose lives he touched.
He worked for Piedmont Truck Tires before joining the Harris Teeter distribution center, where he dedicated eighteen years as a lift driver. After retiring, Mark continued to stay active by mowing yards and taking on countless projects around the house—always happy to keep his hands busy.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Janet Marus; his sons, Mark Jr. and his wife Lauren, and Buddy and his girlfriend Lauren; his sisters, Ramona Faulk, Dale Powell, Jenny Burrow, Nancy Childress, and Donna Lopez; and his grandchildren, Lydia, Mason, Luke, and Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Rose Fields, and his sister Mary Lou.
Mark will be remembered for his kindness, his strong work ethic, his love of nature, and the deep affection he had for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will gather with friends at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Friday, December 12 from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mark’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, cancer.org
