Martha Jane McCormick

Martha Jane Hicks McCormick, 80, of Greensboro, had a glorious reunion with her mother in the presence of Jesus, on August 30, 2017. Her life will be celebrated at 3 PM on Sunday, September 3, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory chapel with Reverend Fred Riggins and Angie McCormick officiating followed by interment at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:45 PM.

Martha was born in Greensboro to the late Harry and Vera Roberts Hicks. She was a charter member of Eastern Gate Assembly of God Church for over 40 years where she loved to express her love for the Lord through song and for others by serving as an intercessory prayer warrior. She had a loving and sweet character and a giving and forgiving spirit. Her husband, David Lee McCormick was tragically taken from Martha when she was only 27 years old and a mother of three young children. Through tenacity, a strong will and with the love and support of her family, she was able to provide for and raise them on her own in a loving and Christian home.

She is survived by her children, Angie McCormick , Laura McCormick and Dottie McCormick Goins (Alvin) and adopted daughter, Lydia Kolenda; brother, James Marshall Hicks (Mary Frances); and granddaughter, Brittany McCormick Graham (Michael); and sister-in-law, Margaret Hicks all of Greensboro. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Nancy Reeves, Elizabeth Freeman, Harry “Tib” Hicks, and Nathaniel Cicero Hicks.
