Mary Ellen Ronnenberg

Mary Ellen Ronnenberg was born to James M. Flaherty and Nell Curran in St Louis, MO on July 6, 1933. She grew up in Tulsa, OK with her two sisters, Roseanne and Sheila. She cherished her childhood memories of Tulsa long after the family moved to White Plains, NY in 1946.

Mary Ellen graduated from White Plains High School and went on to receive a business degree from Westbrook College in Portland, ME. After leaving Maine she returned to New York and began a career with United Airlines in New York City.

Mary Ellen met the love of her life, Frank Ronnenberg, on the steps of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains, NY. They went on to marry in that same church in 1956. Their married life took them many places including California and Canada, ultimately settling in Chappaqua, NY where they raised their five children. After retirement they split their time between NY and Naples, FL.

Mary Ellen loved her life with Frank. Together they traveled, entertained friends and worked tirelessly on philanthropic projects in Westchester County. While her health allowed, Mary Ellen enjoyed bridge with her friends, hosted parties and volunteered in the community. There was always a beloved dog, an open door and a welcoming hug in their home.

Mary Ellen spent her last years in Jamestown, NC near three of her children. She never lost her quick wit, impeccable taste, style, and sense of humor. Mary Ellen is survived by her five children, six grandchildren, sister, brother- in- law, sister-in-law, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

It was Mary Ellen’s Catholic faith that brought her purpose in life and peace in her last moments. Nothing kept her down. She always got back up until, ultimately, she was lifted up. She left this earth surrounded by her family. And so to all who knew and loved her, “Bye for now.”
