Mary Glendinning Elam

Mary Glendinning Elam passed away on April 6, 2025 in Greensboro, NC. She was born in Huntsville, Alabama to James Stewart Glendinning and his wife, Anne Holden Glendinning on September 28, 1927. The family moved to Greensboro where Mary and her older brother, Jim, were raised.

Mary married her high school sweetheart, Jack Elam, in August of 1947. They were the parents of three children, George, John and Erin.

Mary graduated from UNCG in 1971 with a degree in Interior Design. She was president of Mary Elam Design, Inc. from then until her retirement in the late 1990s.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Jack, and her brother Jim Glendinning. She is survived by her children, George Elam (Deb), John Elam (Eve), Erin Elam and nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

A family service is planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal BUDS of Southeastern NC, 20 N. 4th Street, Ste. 450, Wilmington NC 28401, a foundation dedicated to helping children with Downs Syndrome live happy and productive lives.
