Mary Louise Johnston

The funeral service will be held at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jesse Bledsoe officiating. The burial will be held following the service at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Arcola, NC at 2:30 p.m.

Mary was born in Halifax County, NC, to the late Robert Henry and Laura Buchanan Arrington. She was a magna cum laude graduate of Aurelian Springs High School and attended Louisburg College. Mary married Sidney Gordon Johnston on September 11, 1948. She was a member of Englewood United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women.

She was a doting grandmother and was the caregiver to her husband for more than fifteen years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister and 2 brothers. Mary is survived by her son, Sidney Johnston, Jr. and wife Lynn of Greenwood, SC and daughter, Jo Traub and husband Paul of Greensboro; grandchildren, Gordon Johnston, III and wife Julie, Harrison Ellinwood and wife Hollie, Lauren Traub Riggs, and Elizabeth Traub; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Johnston, Olivia Ellinwood and Tristan and William Riggs; sisters, Evelyn Harris and Linda Satterfield; and brother Robert (Bob) Henry Arrington.

The family would like to thank to Dr. Nancy Allen and Duke University Medical Center, who provided amazing care, love and comfort to Mary.

The family requests contributions be made to Duke University Medical Center in memory of Mary Johnston.
