

Mary Davis Jordan, age 93, the beloved mother of Anthony (“Tony”) Davis, grandmother to Michele Davis and Angela Davis, and great-grandmother to Anson Davis, passed away peacefully at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina, on December 25, 2024. She was born on October 18, 1931, in Greensboro, NC to Eugene Joseph and Cora Ethel Davis (deceased).
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Perry Jordan; beloved daughter-in-law, Denise Miller Davis; sisters, Catherine Davis, Alice Davis, Priscilla Davis Moore; brother, Eugene Davis, Jr; nieces, Wilhelmina Davis, Wanda Moore, Anita Denise Davis; nephew, Robert Moore.
Mary was a steadfast source of love, warmth, and generosity for her family, friends, and community. She committed her life to her family, cherishing and spending every moment, when possible, with her grandchildren and great-grandson was a testament to her joy and love.
Early in life, Mary was a dedicated member of Warren Street Methodist Church, which later merged to become Metropolitan Methodist. Later, she transferred her membership to Providence Baptist.
Music was a significant part of Mary's life, and her powerful and uplifting voice inspired many. She was a talented singer who sang in church choirs, at community functions, and professionally. Earlier in her life, she sang with her sisters, Alice, and Charlene. Mary also graced many stages as a soloist with the renowned Rhythm Vets directed by Walter Carson, Jr. Her smooth, enchanting, and soulful voice captivated many audiences throughout many states.
Mary attended JC Price Junior High School and graduated from Dudley High School in 1949. She contributed to the legacy of JC Price School along with several former students and teachers, providing information for Greensboro College Brock Historical Museum online. Mary was a respected member of the Dudley High School Alumni Council as well as her class representative for many years. As a passionate #1 supporter of Dudley, she took part in planning, organizing, and attending most of the consolidated class reunions.
After graduation, she was gainfully employed in department store sales and domestic activities. Later spending several years working in the dietary section at Lorillard and L. Richardson Hospital.
An exceptional cook, Mary, in partnership with her sister, Charlene, became renowned for creating delicious meals and treats that unite family and friends. The kitchen was a hub of comforting aromas from their culinary creations, and it is essential that someone preserve these cherished recipes for future generations and friends to enjoy.
As a devoted homemaker, Mary established and maintained a loving, nurturing environment for both immediate and extended family members. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and support. Everyone felt welcomed and valued, particularly her niece, Willena, whom she helped rear, and her niece caregivers LaLeisa and Jacqueline.
Mary’s commitment to her community shone through her extensive volunteer work at Peeler Elementary School. She devoted countless hours to helping children with their studies and improving their behavior, hopefully leaving an indelible mark on their lives that will be remembered for years.
Mary leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, kindness, and service. She is survived by her sister, Charlene Davis; nieces, Willeena Davis Algood (Joseph) of Raleigh, Janet Ahmed of Atlanta, Dava Moore of Charlotte, Jacqueline Randson of Charlotte, Sharlene Moore of Waterbury, CT, Paula Hardy of Waterbury, CT, Lynn Hardy of Waterbury, CT, Eugenia Davis of Waterbury, CT, Joetta Moore of Hudson, NY, and LaLeisa Cornelius (Sam); and nephews, Allen Davis, Douglas Moore of Brooklyn, NY, Leonard Davis (Lorie) of San Antonio, TX, Jeffrey Davis (Joni) of Clemson, SC, and Donovan Davis (Anette) of Atlanta, GA. Bonus family members: Anne, Chris, and Heather Main; and Ned McMillan. Faithful caregivers Patricia Hope, Faye Partee, Trinity Thigpen, Natalie Fox.
So many other family members and friends will sadly miss her laughter, singing, words of wisdom, and encouragement.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Providence Baptist Church of Greensboro, 1106 Tuscaloosa Street, Greensboro, NC with the viewing beginning at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Cemetery.
