Matthew Gareth Davis

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel with Rev. Ann Marie Alderman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service from 7:00 until 8:30 pm.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Sue C. Davis; aunt, Tamara C. Beckman (Carl), uncle, James M. Clontz, aunt, Louisa Davis, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Evan Richard Davis; his grandparents, James W. and Martha Clontz, Richard Davis and Elisabeth Davis; aunt, Betty Clontz, and uncle, Ian Davis. He is survived also by numerous cousins.

Matt was born February 15, 1985 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Grimsley High School in 2003 and attended UNC-G and most recently GTCC. He was a member of the Boy Scout Troop 160 of the Centenary Methodist Church and earned his Eagle Scout Award in 2002.

Matthew and his family enjoyed many happy times: trips to Murrells Inlet, SC to visit his grandmother Elisabeth Davis, family vacations at the beach and numerous scouting adventures with his Dad and troop members. Matthew and his father enjoyed many wonderful canoe trips on rivers in North Carolina. Matt was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed diving trips to the Florida Keys, Mexico, Hawaii and Barbados with his family. He was a loving son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Friends noted that Matt's smile would light up a room. Matthew was much loved, and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
