June was born on July 3, 1936, to the late Margaret Plummer Keck and William Cox. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, James Edwards and was cared for by her loving aunt, Daisy. June attended Alamance High School until 1954. In the summer of 1954, she met Cletus W. Yow, Jr. They married November 19, 1954, in Idaho, followed by moving to the United States Airforce Base in Spokane, Washington.
June was a Homemaker during the Airforce service years. In that time, they were blessed with three children and were stationed in Massachusetts, Florida, Maine, and moved back to North Carolina to be with family after retiring in 1972 from the United States Airforce. June made many friends along the way.
She worked through her later years in North Carolina, at Myers Department Store, C&F Beauty Supply, Tom’s TV’s, Carson Dellosa, and Lakeview Memorial Park, before retiring. June loved to shop and dressing up with all her “Bling”! She loved hosting gatherings for her family and friends. June enjoyed golfing with friends, playing cards, going to the movies and traveling. She was a great bowler and was on the “Deadeye Bowlers” team, which consisted of the 306th Bomb Wing in Western Pacific Wives. June was a member of Southeast Guilford Civitan Club and served as a Gideon for many years. She was a devoted member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church for 53 years, where she sang in the church choir, served on the daycare committee, VBS and the fellowship committee, which she held dear to her heart. June loved planning socials for the church, especially the Annual Bean Banquet and 4th of July events. She played on the church’s women’s softball team for years. June lived life to the fullest and enjoyed dancing. She danced right up until the weekend before The Lord called her home.
June was cared for in her home the last 5 months of her life, by her loving caregivers, Whitney Locklear and great-granddaughter, Breyonna Jordan.
June leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her children, Terri Y. Oliver (Jack) of Greensboro, NC, Lisa Y.
